About me

Hello all!  My name is Elise Renning and I am extremely excited to welcome you and your child to the Social Communication Classroom at Highland Park for the 2016-2017 school year.  Please read this section to learn a little more about me.

I graduated from Arizona State University with a major in Human Communication and later achieved my Masters in Special Education from Grand Canyon University.  I am a volunteer with the Autism Society of Oregon and have also spent time as a private in-home therapist.  I am a transplant from Arizona and have been in Oregon for almost four years.  During my time in Arizona, I served in an autism classroom for two years as an educational assistant, then as a student teacher, and finally as the lead teacher.  In addition to my classroom experience, I also worked at the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center where I served as a Clinical Interventionist for children and adults impacted with autism.  Prior to my work in education, I spent several years in banking management.

Outside of my work serving those individuals impacted with autism, I am a wife and mother to my wonderful and spunky 8 year old son.  Family is very important to me and I enjoy spending as much time with them as possible.  I am a lover of the trees.  There is just something so magical about how they are rooted and grounded, as well as provide shade and never expect anything in return.  I love to work out, hike, and almost anything that keeps my body moving and healthy.  I love music and find my IPod to be such an eclectic mix, from Classic Country to Indie Rock.  I adore going to concerts.  Live music rocks!  Literally.  As much as I love to eat healthy, I can't get enough of my snackies (potato chips, sour candy, and dips(I love my dips. salsa, guac, green onion)...OH MY!)  Oh and I love cheese.  Obsessively love cheese.  I am a big sports fan and love to watch and/or attend most any type of sporting event.

I am grateful and honored to be at Highland Park for my second year and am looking forward to a fantastic and fun school year with our amazing humans.  I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to serve your children and would like to thank you in advance for your support, collaboration, and partnership as we support our students navigate the world of middle school.
